  Andy Jackson, Commander

WELCOME All. First, a brief introduction for all who don't know me. My name is Charles Andy Jackson a US Navy veteran from 1979 to 1984.  I served on a Troop Carrier during the Beirut Conflict.  I have been married for 37 years to my wife Debi, who is an Auxiliary Member for over 20 years, my daughter Darla, an Auxiliary Member and my son Eric,  a SAL member and my granddaughter Olivia our 2017 -18 Poppy Princess who became a member one day after she was born.  We are an American Legion Family. I have also served the American Legion in the following capacities:

  • Post 493 Commander,2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010

  • Ocean County Commander, 2010, 2011, and 2012

  • Department of New Jersey Vice Commander, 2012 -2013

  • Post Officer, for over 15 years for Post 493

  • Chairman, Children And Youth Committee, Department of New Jersey for the past 6 years

  • Instructor, American Legion College for over 5 years

I was very FORTUNATE and PROUD to have Rich, our previous Commander, serve as my Adjutant. I am just as PROUD to have served him as OUR Commander for Post 493 for the last 5 years.  Through his caring and support, he has kept the values of our great post at the top. Rich has committed to guarantee that our post will be viable for years to come.

We, the members of Post 493, have awarded a Post Life Membership to Rich as a small token of his undying commitment.

Rich will be our 2017 -2018 Department Vice Commander.  We are sure he will do a great job and support Post 493 and our State in the manner he has shown in the past. We all wish him the best and our support will be there for him.

We want to thank all our members who have recently returned from our Department Convention in Wildwood.  We partied and supported each other.   It's our time to just get away from all the hard work that really goes into running and supporting a great Post as ours.

We were highly acknowledged for the fundraising that our Post does.   According to our previous year’s records more than $170,000.00 was raised:

  • COTA $32,000.00,

  • Special Olympics polar plunge$16,000.00

  • Scholarships over $5000.00,

  • Donations supporting our local sports teams over $5000.00.

  • Donations supporting our local community as well as the Operation Comfort Warriors, National Emergency Fund., Philadelphia Multi Resource Center a homeless veterans training and support center and so much more.

Our Legion, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of the Legion all went over the top with all-time membership highs thanks to membership chairpersons:  Bonnie our Legion, Patty our Auxiliary, and Kenny our SAL. We want to surpass that this year so please, with your help, send in your dues early and sign up new members, and please lend a hand to all our hard working volunteers by supporting yourselves once in a while. You will be vested in your Post by having hands on but better, working side by side you will create lifelong friends and I will attest to that as I have so many friends that will be my fellow Legionaries for years to come.

I am very approachable, so please say hi and let's look forward to working with our great group of Officers who have worked so hard to make all what our Post has become, a leader in our state amongst our great legion families.

Thanks for being part of our Family and "It's All Good”

                                  For God and Country

Andy Jackson
