Lynn Nieman Vitalone, 68, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015, from a sudden illness. Lynn was born in Hatboro, PA and spent many years in Monmouth County before retiring to Osbourne Island in Little Egg Harbor, NJ in 2009. Lynn was a hairdresser before joining the Long Branch Police Department as a 911 dispatcher and then onto Oceanport Police Department where she retired in February, 2009. She was a member of Cobra One Motorcycle Club, she was a Queen in the Red Hat Society, Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion, Post 493.

Lynn is predeceased by her husband, John Vitalone who passed away in 2009. Surviving are her children, Robert Pastor of Little Egg Harbor, Nicole Wilkes Benoit of Leominster, MA, John Vitalone of Long Branch, Antoinette Romeo of Monroe Township; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Walter Buckley and Mary and Ed Fronczkiewicz; six grandchildren, Robert Pastor, Timothy Pastor, Brianna Pastor, Jordin McGrath, Alexis Colvin, Nicholas Pastor; a great-grandson, Armani Pastor. She also leaves behind her beloved, Lenny Hart of Tuckerton, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial will be held for Lynn at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at the American Legion, post 493 in Little Egg Harbor. Major John V. Cartisser

Major John V. Cartisser, 75, of Tuckerton, N.J., passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was born to Dr. Joseph and Alice Cartisser of Stanhope, N.J., February 1942, moving to Tuckerton in 1985. He was a graduate of Dover High School, Dover, N.J., and Northeastern University, Boston, MA. John was very proud to be a veteran of both the Army and New Jersey National Guard. He is a retiree from both the New Jersey National Guard and the State of New Jersey. He was a member of VFW and American Legion Post 493, Little Egg Harbor, and Redman, Tuckerton. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 28, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Wood Funeral Home, 134 East Main St., Tuckerton, N.J. He will be interred at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
 

Kathleen A. Stevens

Stevens, Kathleen A., - 74 of Little Egg HarborNJ, passed away on August 10, 2017 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, New Jersey surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Hammonton, New Jersey and was a lifelong area resident.  Kathleen worked at Bethel Bindery, Little Egg Harbor for 35 years.  She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 493 and was a graduate of Southern Regional High School, Class of 1960.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Frank Stevens; daughter Evette Lynn Heinle (Kim Scott); daughter Dawn Faye Randik (Andrew); grandchildren Nicole Brophy (Todd); Laura Frazer (Rob); Ashley Howell (Marty); Caitlin Randik and Courtney Randik; great-grandchildren Austin Brophy, Taylor Frazer, Chase Brophy, Tristan Frazer, and Cole Howell. A viewing will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 7 PM to 9 PM at WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN STREET, TUCKERTON, N.J. Committal and burial will be 11 AM on Tuesday, August 15, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery, North Green Street, Tuckerton, NJ.
 

Marshall E."Ted" Behr Jr.

Marshall “Ted” E. Behr, Jr., of Tuckahoe, NJ passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Pomona, NJ. Born in Pickens, SC to the late Marshall E. and Virginia (nee Dale) Behr. Ted was a graduate of Wildwood High School class of 1961, earned his BA in 1965 and MA in 1970 from Glassboro State College. He was a School Teacher and Supervisor of Curriculum and Special Programs for Linwood Public School District and Chief School Administrator of Weymouth Township School District before his retirement in 2000. Ted was very active in his community, he was a member of American Legion Post # 295 in Northfield and Post #239 in Tuckahoe. He had held many positions at the post and county levels before becoming StatCommander serving in 2003 2004 and a member of Star Lodge # 65 F. & A. M, Tuckahoe, NJ. He served as both President and Member of the Board of Trustees for the Head of the River Church and Tuckahoe Methodist Church, Veterans’ Advisory Council of the Vineland Veterans Home, served on the Upper Township Zoning Board of Adjustment and Planning Board for many years and was a Certified Master Gardner with Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County. He is survived by spouse Karen Behr, daughter Megan Behr and her husband, Jason Grundman, and significant other Ruby Cramer and her sons Ryan Cramer and Reed Cramer. Friends may call at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 SouthShore Road, Palermo, NJ on Saturday evening from 4 until 7 O’clock with a Masonic Funeral Service being offered at 6 O’clock and Sunday afternoon from 12 O’clock until 1:30, directly followed by the American Legion and Memorial services. Ted was very interested in preserving military history. Edward N. Lawless

     

August 31, 1938 - September 3, 2016
Edward N. Lawless, USMC Retired, age 78, formerly of Tuckerton, NJ, died September 3, 2016, at Patriots Colony, Williamsburg, VA. His wife, Margaret, daughter Maureen, parents George and Margaret Lawless, as well as siblings, Rev George P. Lawless (OSA), Sister George Margaret Lawless (SSJ), John, and Bernard preceded him in death. Mr. Lawless graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia also, from East Carolina University. During his military career he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Service Medal. His hobbies included traveling to Ireland, beer drinking with friends and gambling. Survivors include: 4 daughters, Kelly Burkhard and husband Joel; Denise Lawless; Rosemary Paul and husband Robert and Colleen Lawless. Grandchildren, Brendan and Hannah Burkhard; Erin, Kayla and Caroline Paul. Siblings, Margaret McNally, Denise Quigg and Joseph Lawless. Funeral service conducted by Father Patrick Brady, will be held Friday, 12:00 pm, September 9, 2016 at St. Thersea’s Catholic Church, Little Egg Harbor, NJ. The family will receive friends, Friday from 9:00 until 11:00 am, prior to the service, at Maxwell Funeral Home, Tuckerton, NJ. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. M/Sgt Edward N. Lawless, USMC, Retired proudly served his country as a three time Vietnam Veteran, where for some, experiences forge friendships, but for a Marine, combat forges a brotherhood. There are no ex-marines, the title is earned, never given, and what’s earned is yours forever.

Edward Wetzler 

Edward T. Wetzler, 93, of Little Egg Harbor, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Edward was born in Brooklyn N.Y. and lived in Clark, N.J. until moving to Little Egg Harbor 11 years ago. Before retiring, he had been an independent businessman in Clark, N.J. He was a communicant of St, Theresa's Church. Edward was a World War II Army Veteran and fought in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He loved flying and earned his pilot's license when he was in his 50s. Edward was a past member of the Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society and was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 45.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Wetzler, his children Thomas Wetzler of San Antonio, TX, Theresa Hoffman of Colonia, N.J., Andrea Miller and her husband Kenneth of Lovettsville. VA; his grandchildren Nicole, Danielle, Bryan, Kenny and wife Sarah, Catherine and Kyle; his great-grandchild Raelynn; and his sister Joan Goodrich of Warwick, N.Y. Edward was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Rose Wetzler, his son Lawrence Wetzler and 6 of his brothers and sisters.

Viewing hours will be held on Friday February 19, 2016 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at Maxwell Funeral Home 160 Mathistown Rd Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087. Additional viewing will be held at St Theresa's R.C. Church, Little Egg Harbor on Saturday February 20, 2016 from 10am until his Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Anna Mae Hunley

Anna Mae Hunley of Hainesport, formerly of Shamong, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly. She was 83.

Born in Moorestown, Anna was a longtime area resident. She was a member of the American Legion Post 493 Auxiliary in Tuckerton.

The wife of the late Paul E. Hunley Sr., she is survived by her daughter: Anna Mae Hunley of Hainesport, the mother of the late, Jerri “Bootsie” Collins, JoAnn Baker, and Paul Hunley, Jr., she is survived her grandchildren: Paul Stevenson, Jack Stevenson, Patricia McKeever, Robbie Collins, Shawn Collins, David Baker, Robbie Baker, Mark Hunley, David Hunley & Michelle Cary, as well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Calvin Angelow of Tuckerton and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 1 PM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11AM until the time of the service. Interment in the BGWCD Veteran’s Cemetery will be on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Bieda, 85, of Little Egg Harbor, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014, at Seacrest Nursing Home, Little Egg Harbor.  Mary was born and lived in Elizabeth before moving to Little Egg Harbor in 1990. She was a member of the American Legion Post 493 Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, babysitting, collecting lighthouses and angels as well as mending old flags with her excellent sewing ability.  She was an amazing mother to her children and grandmother to her great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased in April by her beloved husband of 63 years, Matthew Bieda, 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
She is survived by her loving children, Matthew Bieda (Karen) of Little Egg Harbor, Michael Bieda of Hazlet and Robert Bieda (Jo-Ann) of Barnegat; brothers, Jim and Paul; sister, Peg; grandchildren, Michelle, John, Jonathan, Jordan, Bryan and Matthew; great-granddaughter, Summer; and her beloved dog, Kipper.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY; resided in Avenel, NJ, Sewaren, NJ and Carteret, NJ before moving to Little Egg Harbor, NJ. Arthur was a Police Officer for 29 years with Woodbridge Police Department, Woodbridge, NJ. After moving to Little Egg Harbor, Arthur worked at Viking Yachts, New Gretna and FAA Tech. Center, Pomona. Arthur was a 4th Degree Knight in Don Bosco, also was a member of the NJ Honor Legion, American Legion Post 493, American Legion Riders 493, Past Commander of VFW Post 7164 in Avenel, Iselin First Aid Squad and Boy Scout Leader, Troop 31 in Port Reading. Arthur was predeceased by his first wife, Katherine Grala. He is survived by his wife, Carol, Little Egg Harbor, NJ; sons, Edward Grala, Hewitt, NJ and Richard Grala (Kristen) of Tuckerton, NJ; daughter, Susan Porubsky (Michael) of Toms River, NJ; grandchildren, Scott Grala, Richard Grala Jr., Rose Zollner, Jessica Zollner, Mary Zollner and Sarah Zollner; great-granddaughter, Madison Grala, brother-in-law, Gary Poulsen (Mary); nieces, Cassie Poulsen and Erica Esser (Ben). A service will be held Sunday, 1:00 PM, April 13, 2014 at the American Legion, 420 Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor, NJ. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 134 EAST MAIN ST., TUCKERTON, NJ is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to American Legion Post 493, 420 Radio Rd., Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087 or Meridan Hospice.
