Mystic Island American Legion Post #493 is the southernmost Legion Post in Ocean County, New Jersey.   We are located at 420 Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor, NJ.   [Look for the tank!!!]   You might be wondering why we call ourselves "Mystic Island" rather than "Little Egg Harbor" American Legion Post.   Well, in the beginning...........
Way back in 1972, a number of Military War Era Veterans got together and decided that they wanted to form an American Legion Post.   Not having a Post Home at that time, they began meeting in the "Rotunda."   That's the round building (now a church) on Radio Road and East Playhouse Drive in the Mystic Island Co-Operative Assoc. (MICA Club).   It is while this group of Veterans was located in Mystic Island, that they were officially Chartered in May of 1973 as Mystic Island American Legion Post #493.   There were 17 Charter Members of the Post, all of whom have since passed away.
The Post acquired the present property that was vacant at the time and built its first "Post Home," moving into that facility in 1978.   Although having moved out of Mystic Island, the Membership determined to maintain its Charter and Incorporation name.
The Post completed an addition to our existent facility in 2006, doubling our occupancy capacity, and facilitating the ability to host varied events.
The Post has an American Legion Auxiliary Unit made up of mothers, wives and daughters of Legion and/ or Legion eligible veterans was chartered in January of 1973, and a Sons of the American Legion Squadron, made up of the sons and grandsons of Legion and/or Legion eligible Veterans was chartered in February of 1981.
Our Legion Family is a non-profit, charitable community based organization, with ties to our County, State and National Parent organizations.   We routinely make significant donations to the Pinelands Regional High School Scholarship Fund, as well as our local Police, Fire and Rescue Squads.  We make our facilities available free of charge for other non-profit groups for meetings and fund-raising activities.   We are your friends, co-workers, neighbors and concerned citizens of your community. Having served our Country in uniform in time of war, we continue to serve out of uniform.
